Fixed Bridge, teeth supported

Replacing missing teeth, with a fixed bridge

A lost tooth that is not replaced will trigger many problems. The remaining teeth will start shifting in all directions creating gaps between them, we stop chewing properly, and that will trigger muscle pain and joint pain resulting in frequent headaches.

There are many ways to replace a missing tooth, or missing teeth. The new teeth don't hang in there alone, they should be supported by something strong, by an existing structure in the mouth.

So what are those existing structures?

We have the bones, we have the existing teeth that are still present and we have the gums and the roof of the mouth called the palate.

If the new teeth are supported by the bones, that's called an implant, a surgery is required to drill a screw in the bone.

If the new teeth are supported by the existing teeth present in the mouth that's called a fixed bridge. Surgeries are not required.

And if the new teeth are supported mostly by the gums and palate, that's called a denture. Dentures are removable. They need to be removed and cleaned every time we eat.

Today I want to talk to you about the fixed Bridge, that's when the new teeth are supported by the existing teeth present in the mouth.

If the missing tooth to be replaced has neighboring teeth, those teeth will support the new bridge. The new bridge will be fixed, cemented, glued and cannot be removed.

Now we have replaced the missing tooth or teeth, we have restored the balance in the mouth, we have gained back the proper way of chewing and all will go back to normal.

There are different types of material to choose from when making a fixed bridge and the choice depends on the situation in the mouth and also depends on the budget. Some materials like zirconia are stronger and look more natural but in general all ceramics are strong enough and look good.
